[Newspoetry] It's All Relative

Proximity fuses.

Geopolitics relies upon distance --
McLuhan hoped for a global village,
a village commons, commonality,
a common sense of common man,
would rise from mere ghostly images.

Joe and Jezebel can't abridge distance:
They don't have the same ID cards,
As proximity indicators of fusion,
Of melting into you and me,
Of our fates as common deaths.

All death is too spectral,
Haunting is too parochial:
You have to ring my doorbell,
Before I know death is here,
Calling for you and me, dear.
