[Newspoetry] Valentine's day: Halloween for adults

I was thinking a few moments ago how much Halloween resembles Valentine's Day.
Both concern tricks and treats - and not all of that is about chocolates and
sweets. On both days, people dress up and act strangely, bizarrely, sometimes.
The only difference between them, besides the surface symbols of hearts against
pumpkins and the seasons in which they fall, is that one is most aimed at
children, while the other is most aimed at adults. Children need to express
their emotional fears of dreadful things, like monsters - while adults, I'd
guess, need to express themselves as not being unlovable, dreadful monsters.
