Yes. curious that he can see the consequences of global warming and not see his
responsibility for it, tunnel-visioned as he is on the tail end of the Taliban.
I argued, in the long ago past, originally, that the destruction of the
Government in Afghanistan was not an appropriate response to the problem of Bin
Laden and his terrorist organization. I argued that no nation is safe if they
can be called a "failed state", on the whim of an Imperial regime - for implied
in the idea of a failed state is the idea that such a place is a free-fire zone,
one to which international law and its civilizing norms might not seem to apply.
And, the consequence I articulated was that bloodshed between Israel and
Palestine would rise, as the blood-thirsty regime in Israel would feel no
constraints upon its retaliatory acts. The consequences I did not consider were
that Bush would be emboldened to "cry havoc" and inflict slaughter at will, to
violate Geneva conventions against cruelty, to invade civil liberties here at
home, to permit corruption to run rife, to invade Iraq as if it has anything at
all to do with Bin Laden. Oh, all I worried about was what it means when a
President thinks he is basically free to make war when and where he sees fit to
slaughter people.

When the snow melts in the mountains,

Bush thinks Taliban will fall to fights

Down in the flat land of Afghanistan,

Where his armed forces are holed up

In desert camps, waiting for summer,

For the warm months when war comes.

Does he think Taliban are into skiing?

Does he think about mountains melting?

No. No. Everything happens to him,

Personally, given his total world view,

His idea that history turns the world

Around his evil axis, so specially him.

He has a stiff pole of indifference

Toward what fierce fighting means

To common people in the way of war,

Who become the blood on the land,

A blot of darkness staining history,

But, ah, 'tis all for grandeur's glands.
