Only a Year of Bush Remains

Seven years have come and gone,
Seven years.

In the tongue of Olde Times,
A tithe of life has passed,
Anachronic sacrifices,
Gifts to the God of Time,
On His altar slaughtered.

I remember the possibilities,
Not always once so grave and grim;
I light a candle and I grieve.
I wonder how doom looms
When perils its people perish.

Some were born, some died -
Nothing is done to be born;
Death just happens, anyway -
Winds sift time - bites to dust,
Rains it down and collects us.

Seven years ago, just seven
My hair was full and brown,
My flesh pink and firm,
My mind cheerful and clever,
My prospects brightly shining.

Seven fat Clinton years
Bush's lean seven ate up;
Merciless Ma'at balances all.

Negate and cancel,
Erase and rub-out,
Remove that past, faded into this time;
Turning Earth never returns,
What it takes away and keeps.

Only a Year of Bush remains!
Oh, faster, turn faster, Earth,
Turn over a new leaf, a new left.
End plague and scourge, pain
Given over to his demiurge.

Seven years have come and gone,
A Year of Bush yet remains,
Will I survive, recover, thrive -
Or will there be nothing left,
As nothing remains the same?

Seven Years have come and gone,
Seven Years.

How will it all end? How will it end at all?
