Hi folks,

I just wanted to share with you that I like to bring copies of articles
that feel appropriate to show to people who may be well-intentioned, but
who just don't believe abuses of civil liberties can "really happen here",
or don't think that the United States migtht have other motives (such as
economic ones) beyond "fighting to end terrorism" in Afghanistan and
elsewhere.

I've been keeping and carrying around copies of articles like the ones I
just posted about the men already in prison wrongly (one even been deemed
innocent of the charges). Over the last two months I've also been carrying
around the copy of the speech of the vice president of Unocal, as it makes
it so clear what the motives are, and it's even on record as being said to
a government body! (Thanks Susan for posting it).

These are such helpful tools for talking to the nice people we meet who
don't have a clue (or even those who have) -- and are also helpful for
sharing with local newspeople.

Warmly,
Barbara
