[Peace-discuss] FAST TRACK BILL -- Coming up

Hi. I'm not usually fond of forwarding, but this HR3005 (Trade Promotion
Authority, also known as Fast Track) giving the President authority to
negotiate treaties such as the FTAA is pretty gross. If passed,

The "Fast Track" legislaqtion would the President to negotiate trade pacts
with NO input from Congress-- Congress would be giving up its right.to
criticize absence of human rights, labor or environmental provisions-- we'd
have no representation on these critical issues.

And some pro-GMO folks have put in languaage making GMO labeling ILLEGAL.
(and force Europeans to accept US GMO food as well). (the Democrative
version has the exact same language in this issue although slightly milder
in others). Pleaee call our rep. and anyone else you can think of.

It's obvious to me that while we are caught up in the 9-11 issue (plenty
serious in itself) our "leaders" would love to sneak some other nasty
things by us, and this is one-- it won't take too much work on our part to
start opposing it -- perhaps a phone call or two might be in order on this
one....Use .800-393-1082 (the AFLCIO toll-free line to calling Congress).

Thanks,

Barbara
