Subject: Great News: New Democratic Leadership

Dear MoveOn member,

If nothing else, last week's election was a wake-up call to Democrats.
The good news is that they're actually waking up. Most excitingly,
Representative Nancy Pelosi was overwhelmingly elected today as the
new House Minority Leader. Pelosi's a terrific leader, and with the
help of a strong grassroots effort we're confident she will rebuild
and get great things done.

Unlike former leadership, Nancy Pelosi understands that we must
build and mobilize a vigorous opposition to the challenge from the
right.

"To win back the House in 2004," she says, "we need a unified party
that will draw clear distinctions between our vision of the future
and that espoused by the Republicans."

Thousands of us made calls last week to Democratic Representatives
and Party committees around the nation, urging them to support
leaders with real vision in the House. We'll never know exactly
what role that played in Pelosi's victory, but we know that our
concern and our hope for strong and principled leadership has
reverberated throughout the party structure.

With new leadership, there's a real chance for the national
Democrats to take a stand on the important issues we face and get
some real work done. You were a key part of this.

Thank you,

-Wes Boyd

P.S. You can find the AP article on Pelosi's victory at:

Note that in stark contrast, the GOP has selected Tom Delay as
the new House Majority Leader. Until now, Delay's extreme
viewpoints and blunt style have been kept behind the scenes,
to avoid alienating mainstream support. This is a clear first
sign that the GOP is overreaching on the "mandate" of the election.
The lines are clearly drawn.
