When I said that war is not inevitable, I meant precisely that.
Imminent, perhaps; but imminent suggests to me only that the danger is
impending, not unavoidable -- nor does it suggest to me the hopelessness 
that necessarily accompanies unavoidable catastrophe.

I always agree that disseminating information is critical, but I'm not
sure I understand the thrust of this (or your posted letter to Johnson):
from your point of view, is the main problem the lack of preparedness?
In your opinion, would allocating more money/time/personnel for the DoD
address the issue?  You write,

but it seems to me that the preparedness you suggest would only prevent
the US part of that.  Have I misunderstood?
