This does seem to have legitimate reasons, but I could be the victim of
propoganda:  On NBC nightly news last night, they reported that indeed
the plan of war is to move quickly to the oil fields to secure them.
But the reason that they gave is that a) Saddam sabotoged the Kuwaiti
oil fields a the end of the Gulf War, and b) they believe if he is
challenged that he will use the oil fields as a means to hurt the united
states, in that by destroying his production fields he will greatly
reduce the supply of oil in the world market for a number of years,
hence raising the cost of oil to us and hurting our economy.  They claim
that he has the oil fields rigged with explosives.

These claims do not sound all that far-fetched.  I cannot remember the
figure they gave as to how much it would cost to rebuild his oil fields,
but I think it was around $60 billion.

It should be noted that I do not support an attack :)
