THOUSANDS TAKE TO THE STREETS IN PROTESTS IN 100+ CITIES ON JANUARY 29

Little more than a week and a half after the historic
January 18 demonstrations called by the A.N.S.W.E.R.
Coalition -- which last weekend brought out hundreds of thousands of people to Washington, San Francisco and
cities all over the world -- demonstrations against George Bush’s State of the Union war speech took place in over 100 U.S. cities.

Thousands marched from New York’s Times Square to the UN, braving snow, sleet and harassment by the New York City police, who attempted to prevent protest by breaking the march into sections and arresting three people. In Los Angeles, over a thousand people demonstrated at the
Federal Building. People also protested in scores of other cities including Chicago, Indianapolis, Philadelphia,
Providence, Baltimore, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles and
Manila. (A list of demonstrations can be found at
http://www.internationalanswer.org/campaigns/j29/j29events.html)

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5
EMERGENCY DEMONSTRATION IN NEW YORK CITY
5 pm in Times Square

It is clear from George Bush's "war speech" (a.k.a. the
State of the Union address) that February 5 has been
selected as the "go date" for a declaration of war against Iraq. That declaration will be met with widespread
opposition around the country and the world. An emergency demonstration will take place in New York City, beginning at 5 pm in Times Square.

FEBRUARY 13 - 21
Week of Anti-War Resistance
FEBRUARY 15
Mass action in New York, Chicago & around the world
FEBRUARY 16
Mass action in San Francisco

On February 15, millions of people in Europe will take to
the streets and they have asked the people of the U.S. to join in a display of international solidarity. There will
be mass actions in New York City and Chicago on February 15, in San Francisco on February 16, and in hundreds of
other cities that weekend.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE MOBILIZATION

Thousands of people have expressed their intentions to
descend on the White House in Washington DC the Saturday after the U.S. government begins laying siege to Iraq. The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition is preparing for an emergency
response mobilization.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition calls on all of its affiliate
organizations and supporters to prepare for 1) mass
demonstrations the day of and/or the day after the
initiation of a U.S. war and 2) local or regional actions
the following Saturday.

Many cities and communities have a tradition of holding
these emergency actions in response to U.S. military
aggression. If your community does not have a traditional plan, pick a busy location/intersection, a Federal
Building, Town Hall, etc. More details will be sent in
future updates and will be available on the A.N.S.W.E.R.
web page.
