Subject: A voice for sanity

The Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health is the leading
national organization of parents of children with mental health and
other cognitive needs. This weekend at its quarterly board meeting the
Federation passed this resolution:

The Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health expresses its
concern that the impending conflict in Iraq will have traumatic
ramifications on the emotional well being of children and families in
this country and throughout the world.

We are also concerned that the unprecedented expenditures contemplated
in conjunction with this action will have a significant impact on
resources available for critical child mental health and family support
services.

We are equally concerned about the emotional well being of children
whose parents are currently in active military service.

Therefore, the Federation supports all efforts to avoid war.

The Federation further encourages the President and the Congress to use
all possible means and resources to achieve a peaceful resolution to the
present situation in Iraq, as well as the emerging conflicts elsewhere
in the world.

The Federation further encourages the government, communities, schools
and parents to pay particularly close attention to the emotional needs
of children and families during this difficult, confusing and stressful
time.
