Hey Everyone,

The Conscientious Objection/War Tax Resistance (CO-WTR) working group met
last night. We have a couple of items that need to be presented to the
general group so we can discuss them on Sunday. First, we've written 3
PSAs concerning upcoming events. I've included them below. Please read
them over and give us any feedback you have.

We realize that the events we've scheduled still need to be discussed and
approved by AWARE. We decided on preliminary dates last night to get
things rolling. We can talk about them on Sunday night.

We have a website!! Set your browser coordinates to:
http://www.aces.uiuc.edu/families/wtr/ and launch! We want feedback on
Sunday regarding this site. This is what I'm interested in:
(1) Does it display properly? (browser testing has been limited)
(2) Grammar / spelling
(3) Content
(4) Aesthetics
(5) Other
If you wish, you can email this list with any comments. After the final
changes are made, I would like to link this to AWARE's website.

That's it. See you all at P4P tomorrow!

TAX FILING PARTY

AWARE (Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort) is a group of local activists working
against the growing militarization of American society. War Tax Resistance
is a time-honored strategy of withholding taxes owed to the government in
protest of war. Tactics range from the fairly risk-free practice of
withholding your monthly 3% phone tax that goes towards war, claiming a
"war tax" refund or reducing your taxable income. Other forms of protest
involve withholding a portion of income taxes or refusing to file
altogether. Alternative funds for those who wish to divert their income
taxes toward social services are currently being explored. A Tax Filing
Party is scheduled for April 11th at 7:00. It will be held at Kickapoo
Landing, a restaurant and campground at Kickapoo. Canoeing and a bonfire
will follow. For more information, call Tracy at 253-3078 or go to
www.anti-war.net/wtr and click on events.

TAX DAY PROTEST

AWARE (Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort) is a group of local activists working
against the growing militarization of American society. Did you know that
almost 50% of our tax money goes towards military purposes? One would
think that basic services such as education, universal health care and
strong environmental protection laws would be possible with just a
fraction of this money. Join AWARE in protesting this gross mismanagement
of public funds on Tax Day - Tuesday, April 15 - at the Champaign Post
Office on Green Street between 5:00-7:00 pm. For more information, visit
www.anti-war.net/wtr and click on events.

CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION

Wondering what to do after high school? Looking for alternatives to the
military? Would you like to establish yourself as a Conscientious
Objector? Did you know that you are not legally bound to honor a Delayed
Entry Program (DEP) contract? Have you thought of serving in Americorps,
the Peace Corps or Citizen Corps? Would you like help finding an
internship, college funding or job training? Need assistance locating a
school that's right for you? AWARE (Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort) is a
group of local activists working against the growing militarization of
American society. They can put you in touch with a Peace Mentor. For more
information, go to www.anti-war.net/co.
