TOPICS: EPIC'S 5th ANNUAL IRAQ FORUM AND LOBBY DAYS
TEACH-IN TO CONGRESS & ANNUAL TIKKUN COMMUNITY CONFERENCE
FCNL PERSPECTIVE ON ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT

EPIC LOBBY DAYS: The Education for Peace in Iraq Center (EPIC) is
holding an education and lobbying forum on the weekend of June 14 - 17.
The weekend will begin on Saturday June 14th with a unique day-long
educational seminar with some of the most knowledgeable experts on Iraq
and US policies toward Iraq. This event is geared toward policy experts,
educators, human rights advocates, concerned citizens, students and all
others with a deep concern for the current and future situation. It
seeks to provide updated insight on humanitarian conditions in Iraq and
prospects for a truly free, just and peaceful post-war Iraq.

Confirmed speakers include: Phebe Marr, PhD, author of the two-volume
Modern History of Iraq (2003); Mike Amitay of the Washington Kurdish
Institute; and Juan Cole, PhD, author of Sacred Space and Holy War: The
Politics, Culture and History of Shi'ite Islam (2002); Stephen Zunes,
PhD, a senior policy analyst with the Foreign Policy in Focus Project
and author of Tinderbox: U.S. Middle East Policy and the Roots of
Terrorism (2002).

This event is co-sponsored by Amnesty International-USA, Friends
Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), Fourth Freedom Forum, and
United Methodist Church General Board of Church and Society.

Saturday's forum will be followed up by a high powered ADVOCACY TRAINING
SESSION on Sunday, June 15. This session will provide participants with
the skills, knowledge and confidence to effectively advocate for the
Iraqi people on Capitol Hill. During this one-day event, you will be
briefed on the major policy questions related to Iraq on Capitol Hill,
encouraged to practice meeting with congressional aides and provided
materials to help prepare you for visits with Congressional offices,
whether it's your first time on Capitol Hill or you're a seasoned
grassroots lobbyist.

LOBBY DAYS take place on Monday June 16 and Tuesday June 17 after the
Forum and Advocacy Training weekend. Upon registration for the Lobby
Days, your meetings with congressional offices will be scheduled for you
by the EPIC office. You will meet with offices throughout the day in
teams of advocates and have a chance to bring about democracy in action.
For more information and to register for the events, see EPIC's website
at http://epic-usa.org/epicevents/iraqforum2003.php.
