  Hi Lisa.

Thanks for sending your information. I reviewed it with our Station Manager and Director of Development. We unfortunately have to turn it down at this time. One of underwriting policy guidelines states...
  5. Underwriting credits may NOT:

               e. contain language that directly or indirectly advocates particular positions or points of view on controversial issues.

Our feeling is that it would be very hard to separate your organization from your strong political point of view (nor, I assume, would you want it to be.) It would be the same as if, for example, the National Rifle Association would want to underwrite. We would turn that down because the organization it's self represents a strong, controversial, political point of view in most peoples minds.

At the same time it isn't that we shy away from the topic. As I am sure you know, WILL and NPR has delved into the issue of the war and it's controversial nature on many of our news and talk programs.

I am sorry that we were not able to help you out with underwriting at this time. I do appreciate you thinking of WILL. If you have any questions please give me a call at 333-1070.

  Thank you.

  Dear Les Schulte,
We spoke last week about the organization AWARE purchasing underwriting spots on AM 580. We agreed that I would send you the text we are interested in and you would let me know if it's OK. This is it:

AWARE, the Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort, works on issues of peace and justice through educational activities and organizing projects. The group meets Sundays from 5 to 6:30 pm, at the IMC, 218 West Main St. in Urbana and all are welcome. You can visit their website at anti dash war dot net [www.anti-war.net].

When I hear back from you we can discuss the cost, the number of spots and what time of day it will be read.

  Thanks,
  Lisa Chason
