[Peace-discuss] demonstration outside Winkel's office for SB101

Hello everyone,

I would like to invite you and others you know who may be able to 
attend a picket outiside Winkel's office. Details below. Posters will 
be provided as well as some SB101 t-shirts to be worn over clothes. I 
will be playing the accordion and I hope others will feel inspired to 
waltz  or free-style in comfortable shoes.

LAST CHANCE FOR Senate Bill 101

SB 101, which adds sexual orientation to the Illinois Human Rights 
Act, must pass the Senate in the fall session or we have to start 
from scratch!

Join us for a demonstration in the Senate Gallery on Nov 20!

SB 101 will
protect the same basic rights for all citizens of Illinois, whether 
they are heterosexual or whether they are perceived to be gay or 
lesbian.
prohibit an employer from firing, refusing to hire, or refusing to 
promote a qualified candidate solely on the basis of sexual 
orientation.
prohibit lenders from denying credit to individuals based on their 
sexual orientation.
prohibit landlords from refusing to rent to people because of their 
sexual orientation.
prohibit public accommodations from refusing to serve customers 
because of their sexual orientation.

SB101 will not
* promote or condone any lifestyle.
* give "special rights" to any individual, group, or community.
* take away a religious organization's right to hire and fire according to the
    tenets of its religion.
* force an employer to hire unqualified workers.
* apply to rental owner-occupied residential buildings with 5 or fewer units.
* affect marriage laws.
* establish "affirmative action" or quotas.
