[Peace-discuss] P4P sidewalk driver

Just a quick note on our sidewalk driver:

Lt Gallo says the report he has gotten from Officer
Hawkins is that he went by the guy's house. The
vehicle belongs to the driver's father, it seems. He
is 18 or 19 yrs old, "old enough to know better" in Lt
Gallo's words, and a naval reservist.

Hawkins apparently told the father that we would not
press charges if the father would deal with it
appropriately (!), whatever that means. I'm pretty
sure no one told him that, but it is possible I said I
just wanted the guy to understand the seriousness of
his actions and wasn't interested in sending him to
jail or anything. We are apparently, however, still
within our rights to press it, at which point Gallo
says if the guy pleads innocent someone would need to
testify in court. I have no problem with that if
someone will play with my kids, or of someone else
wants to be the "complainant", that's fine, too.

Gallo says he wishes a citation had been issued on the
spot, and failing that that the father had brought in
the son and a citation had been issued then. At any
rate, none of that happened, and the ball is now in
our court, so to speak.
