[Peace-discuss] Democrats move to keep Socialist, Greensoff the Ballot

Some Champaign County Democratic Officals are objecting to two Greens
because they are students, and don't live in CU over the summer.  If the
objection is allowed, students will lose their right to run as anything
but Democrats and Republicans since new party petitions are submitted in
the summer.  This is, of course, blatant discrimination; if I went on
sabatical over the summer, nothing would be said about that.

The County Officer's Electoral Board will hold a preliminary hearing on
the issue on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 9AM in room K on the second floor
of the Champaign County Courthouse, 101 E. Main, Urbana, IL.

Predictably, the Democrats have attempted to block an 
independent socialist challenge here by claiming that over 
half of the petitions we gathered are invalid.  If you're so 
inclined, you can help by reading the following article and 
then e-mailing County Clerk Mark Sheldon (his e-mail is at 
the bottom of the article) demanding a fair hearing for the 
review of the petitions and the Democrats' objections, which 
will take place on Tuesday.  Please see the link below.

The blocking of all anti-war challengers to the Democrats, 
both myself and the Greens, is a clear attempt to keep 
discussion of the war in Iraq off the table in Novemeber.
