Subject: [Peace] Farmer's Market Guidelines and schedule

Attached below are the requested guidelines for tabling at the Farmer's Market. Please look over this draft and a plan to discuss and finalize the guidelines at the AWARE meeting on July 31.
Also a Tabling Schedule is attached below with possible sign up times for AWARE members to consider.

AWARE Tabling Guidelines

Farmer's Market & Other Venues

(These guidelines are provided to facilitate a positive and respectful relationship between AWARE representatives and the general public when serving as a volunteer of AWARE.)

  1.. PURPOSE OF TABLING:
To provide a visible and public presence regarding anti-war and anti-racism issues.

To provide timely information about these and related topics to the general public.

To provide an opportunity and the means for individuals to become involved.

  2.. ENGAGING THE PUBLIC:
Our purpose is to challenge and engage the public in a constructive manner. Dialog and discussion are appropriate and to be expected, however they should remain civil. AWARE representatives should avoid being confrontational or argumentative. Make frequent reference to AWARE materials for AWARE positions and detailed information on particular topics. Cordially invite those interested or with questions to our weekly Sunday meeting.

  3.. INFORMATIONAL/PRINT MATERIALS:
AWARE has approved distributing certain print materials. These include materials such as AWARE pamphlets, the Public-I, informational bulletins, etc. These print materials are located in the AWARE box or pamphlet tray. Encourage people to help themselves to these free print materials.

  4.. ITEMS FOR SALE:
(E.g.- yard signs, buttons, bumper stickers, pencils, fair traded coffee etc.)

Occasionally AWARE or members of AWARE purchase items for sale at the table. These items should be clearly labeled. We ask the public to donate the cost of the item if they wish to take one. These costs should be clearly posted for the public to see. They are as follows: yard signs - $5, buttons and bumper stickers - $1, pencils - $.25, fair trade coffee - $10. Our goal is only to recoup the cost, not to make a profit. Do not give away cost items unless it seems appropriate because of an inability to pay. The price of each item is subject to change.

  5.. POST CARDS/SURVEYS/PETITIONS:
Table visitors should be informed of AWARE petitions, post card drives, etc. and questions answered if asked. Signatures may be directly solicited, but negative responses should be respected and not challenged.

6.. ADVOCATING FOR A PARTICULAR POLITICAL CANDIDATE OR PARTY:
AWARE does not endorse or advocate for any candidate or political party. AWARE is a diverse group with diverse political views. Although AWARE members may have strong political views regarding individual candidates or political parties, they must be careful NOT to express or impose personal political views as representatives of AWARE while working at the table. In short, AWARE members should refrain from advocating, endorsing, or voicing personal preference for any political candidate for political office at the local, state, or national level while representing AWARE at the table.

  7.. AWARE MEETINGS:
Although not required occasional attendance at Sunday meetings may assist volunteers to understand and participate in the development of Tabling Guidelines.
