[Peace-discuss] Vote to ELIMINATE "Chief Illiniwek"!!!

To all UIUC students:

Please vote to *ELIMINATE* "Chief Illiniwek" in the March 16-17th 
Illinois Student Government referendum!! The referendum asks:

      Do you support Chief Illiniwek as the Symbol
      of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign? 
      ____ Yes    __X___ No

      Vote NO!

The Progressive Resource/Action Cooperative (PRC) has opposed this 
referendum from its inception because we strongly believe that the 
voices that matter most on this issue are the voices of Native 
peoples in Illinois, not a popularity contest among non-Native 
students on the UIUC campus. However, given that the referendum is 
happening, we are encouraging all students to vote against the 
"Chief" to demonstrate the size and strength of the anti-"Chief" 
movement on our campus.

Voting NO to the "Chief" is voting NO to racial stereotyping, and YES 
to Native American rights and self-determination.
