[Peace-discuss] 55 Colombian paramilitaries arrested this morning in Venezuela

This is DYNAMITE!!!  55 Colombian paramilitaries were arrested this morning 
in Venezuela at the ranch of an anti-Chavez opposition leader.  They were 
being trained to conduct attacks in Venezuela.  I'm waiting for the US's 
involvement in this action to come out.

55 Colombian paramilitaries captured on Roberto Alonso’s ranch

Radio Nacional de Venezuela reports:  Fifty-five people, presumed Colombian 
paramilitaries, were captured May 9 at a ranch in sector La Mata, El 
Hatillo, belonging to Coordinadora Democratica leader Roberto Alonso, 
according to Venezolana de Television (VTV).

A joint operation between the National Guard, the Office of Military 
Intelligence (DIM), the State Police (DISIP), and the Scientific, Penal, and 
Criminal Investigation Corps (CICPC), “captured more than 50 uniformed 
Colombian paramilitaries, who were going to receive arms and be mobilized to 
different parts of the country (Venezuela),” according to DISIP Commissioner 
Miguel Rodriguez.  He confirmed that several dissident military personnel 
from Altamira were involved as leaders in these mobilizations.

According to VTV journalist Darvin Romero Montiel, “all of those captured 
had Colombian accents.”

Commissioner Rodriguez stated, “We know exactly who are the leaders of this 
(operation); they are retired military from Plaza Altamira led by General 
Felipe Rodriguez, and a group of civilians whom we have completely 
identified.  We are waiting for orders from the Attorney General to begin 
searches and captures.”


“They have already admitted that they are paramilitaries.”

Rodriguez continued, “We’ve talked with some of the paramilitaries who are 
here, and they have already admitted that they are Colombian paramilitaries, 
and they have told us some anecdotes, about activities they conducted during 
the time they’ve spent here in this camp.  They explained what they are 
doing here.  They have a logistics operation with the Danubio Bakery; they 
also explained the punishment that was given them when they tried to 
escape.”

Everyone was dressed for a military campaign, and had Colombian accents, 
according to VTV.  “They will be treated as a subversive group with all of 
the force of law,” confirmed Rodriguez.

Robert Alonso, brother of famous Cuban actress Maria Conchita Alonso, has 
been accused of being one of the coordinators of the violent opposition 
protests (guarimbas) at the end of February and the beginning of March.

VTV released the information through a telephone connection, and hopes to 
install a microwave transmitter so that they can broadcast images of the 
operations.

Cincuenta y cinco personas, presuntamente paramilitares colombianos, fueron 
capturadas en una hacienda ubicada en el sector La Mata de El Hatillo 
perteneciente al líder de la Coordinadora Democrática Robert Alonso, según 
informó el canal del Estado, Venezolana de Televisión.

En un operativo conjunto entre la Guardia Nacional, la División de 
Inteligencia Militar (DIM), la Disip y el Cuerpo de Investigaciones 
Científicas, Penales y Criminalísticas, "se logró la captura de más de 50 
paramilitares colombianos, uniformados de campaña, quienes iban a recibir 
armas e iban a ser movilizados a distintos puntos del país" según informó el 
comisario Miguel Rodríguez, director de la Disip. Él afirma que varios 
militares disidentes de Altamira estaban involucrados en los hechos, como 
líderes del mismo.

Según el periodista Darvin Romero Montiel, "todos los capturados tienen 
acento colombiano."

"Sabemos exactamente quienes son los jefes de todo esto, afortunadamente, 
donde hay militares retirados de la Plaza Altamira liderados por el general 
Felipe Rodríguez, y un grupo de civiles que tenemos ya completamente 
identificados. Esperaremos por la orden de la Fiscalía para empezar a hacer 
los allanamientos y las órdenes de captura respectivas."


"Ya se han declarado paramilitares"

"Hemos conversado con algunos de los paramilitares que están aquí, ya se han 
declarado como paramilitares colombianos, y nos han contado algunas de sus 
anécdotas aquí, de las actividades que hacían en el tiempo que tenían aquí 
en este campamento. Explican lo que han hecho en este sitio. Tienen una 
cantidad de logística con la Panadería Danubio, así como los castigos que se 
les imponían cuando trataban de escaparse."

Todas las personas estaban vestidas de campaña y tienen acento colombiano, 
según informó el canal del Estado. "Van a ser tratados como grupo subversivo 
con todas la de la ley" , afirmó Rodríguez.

A Robert Alonso, hermano de la conocida actriz cubana María Conchita Alonso, 
se le ha acusado de ser uno de los coordinadores de las protestas violentas 
que la oposición realizó a fines de febrero y comienzos de marzo de este 
año, conocidas como "guarimbas".

El canal del Estado dio la información a través de un pase telefónico, y 
espera a la instalación de sus microondas para comenzar a transmitir 
imágenes de los hechos.
