The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center will
host a
LECTURE and BOOK SIGNING with ROBERT MCCHESNEY
On MAY 16, from 3-5 PM at the IMC, 218. W. Main St. in
Urbana.

A  nationally-recognized media scholar and renowned
advocate of 
grassroots 
media, Robert McChesney is Research Professor in the
Institute of 
Communications Research at the University of Illinois.
McChesney's 
tireless 
commitment to public discussion makes him an
invaluable local resource 
for – 
and national promoter of –  a more democratic system
of media.

McChesney's new book, "The Problem of the Media: U.S.
Communication 
Politics 
in the Twenty-First Century", promises to be a
landmark contribution to 
the 
field of Media Studies and Mass Communication.

The book will be on sale for $12, which includes
admission to the 
lecture. 
Admission without the purchase of a book is $5.

Proceeds from the book signing will go to the Public
i, a monthly 
publication of the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media
Center (IMC). The 
Public i is run by a small group of volunteers who
make all editorial 
decisions by consensus. The Public i publishes
articles from community 
members about issues of local, national, and
international importance.
