[Peace-discuss] Geneva Conventions

Rumsfeld SAID, when questioned last week by Senate and House reps, that Geneva Convention did NOT apply @ Guantanamo, and NOBODY, NOT ONE interrogator, brought up the facts Ricky mentioned and said that they should.

I agree w/ Carl that we must convince Kerry to do better.  How best to do this?

Actually, I don't think it's clear at all that the
conventions don't apply at Guantanamo.  There are
different conventions, after all, for civilians in
wartime and for POWs, just for starters.  

But I think more importantly, just because the Bush
Admin says someone isn't a POW doesn't mean he or she isn't.  That determination, according to the
conventions, just isn't up to the US government, but
would legally be decided by tribunal.  It hasn't been,
to my knowledge.
