Hi Paul et al,

We couldn't agree more that the current admin -- plus previous ones as well -- has and will use FBI/CIA for nefarious purposes, as well as positive ones. And the bad stuff won't go away, so thank God for ACLU, etc... But it surely benefits the gov't (and all of us) to prevent another 911, or worse..... Earlier plots were intercepted, e g the plot to blow up the Holland Tunnel/NYC in early 90s. And 911 should have been..... it also should have been the downfall of the Bush Admin, instead of its salvation/every Republican's favorite day.... I know someone who was hired as a civilian translator for the fibbies in late 2002 -- fluent arabic, AND also gay -- maybe the military now regrets firing those gay translators?? Why wasn't THAT a campaign issue, speaking of security....

Anyhow, don't we want better Intelligence -- and of course better behaviour by the US gov't and the Corporations, in your dreams -- to i d and deal w/ terrorists/cells, rather than attacking "terrorist states" in this vengeful so-called "War on Terror"

Glad for other tho'ts on Intelligence/prevention/security in general. Anyone?

That would be great if anyone trusted this current
government to really do that. . .

Prior to 911, the FBI was useing more agents watching
hookers in New Orleans and investigating the anti
globalization efforts around the country than they had
on bin laden types. .
I don't think that the attack has changed everything
at the Federal Bureau of Intimidation. ..

as regards the cia, its intelligience and analysis
units mainly serve policy objectives of whatever
administration is in power (we have the occasional
glitch in this system as evidenced by the current
disarray, see e-mail from JM) and the covert ops
branch's sculldugery cancels any "good" that might
come from our cia.

See Chalmers Johnson's recent article calling for the
agency's abolition for the whys and wherefors .. .

I'll likely be playing some vintage stuff from Ralph
McGehee and Phil Agee. . .this afternoon on weft. ..
I hope that aware, perhaps some members will rise to
the occasion and go to the One World to illustrate,
not to say, demonstrate that the CIA is part of the
problem not part of the solution. . .

cheers
