This week's guest on Media Matters is Phil Donahue. Host of an  Emmy Award-winning TV talk show, Phil Donahue was one of the  originators of the daytime talk show format, featuring panel  discussions of controversial social issues, celebrity guests, and  audience participation. Recipient of the National Academy of  Television Arts and Sciences' Lifetime Achievement Award,Donahue  earned high ratings with viewers from his first broadcast in 1967  clear through its final segment in 1996. In 2002 he briefly returned  to television with a show on MSNBC. Phil Donahue will be speaking on  the U of I campus as part of the Media Consolidation Conference, May  10-11.
