Well, according to Puerto Rico's resident lapdog, I mean resident 
commissioner, Luis Fortuño.  Here's a translation of a breaking news story 
from Puerto Rico's El Nuevo Dia (San Juan):

Fortuño says that troops will return from Iraq in April

PONCE (AP) - Resident Commissioner Luis Fortuño ventured today to anticipate 
that as soon as Spring of next year, the United States will begin to return 
all of its troops from Iraq.  Fortuño, of the New Progressive Party in 
Puerto Rico and the Republican Party in the United States, said that his 
sources in the Department of Defense told him that the massive troop 
withdrawal will begin next April.

"The information they have given us is that by Spring, the massive 
mobilization will begin in this direction.  That takes time.  We're speaking 
of more than 150,000 soldiers who will come home.  That obviously includes 
the Puerto Rican soldiers," said Fortuño in an interview with the Associated 
Press.

Nearly 1,800 soldiers of Puerto Rican origin are deployed in Iraq, Kuwait, 
and Afghanistan, and at least 35 of them have died since the United States 
began the war after the attcks on New York and Washington in 2001, according 
to Pentagon figures.

Military sources in Washington have not publicly offered a date for the 
withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.  The Resident Commissioner assured that 
he regularly receives information from the Department of Defense on the war 
in Iraq.

Fortuño said that he would prefer that the war end as soon as possible in 
Iraq, but he affirmed that Puerto Ricans musn't criticize the presence of 
Puerto Rican soldiers in the conflict because "we can't be American citizens 
for some things and not for others."

When asked if it seems unjust that Puerto Ricans are participating in US 
wars without being able to vote for its President and Commander in Chief, 
Fortuño said that "we have the option of choosing other things."

"There are two other things:  being an independent republic where we decide 
whether or not to enter a war; or if we are a state, where we have rights 
like the other 50."

Fortuño dice tropas regresarán de Irak en abril

PONCE (AP) - El comisionado residente Luis Fortuño se aventuró hoy a 
anticipar que tan pronto como en la primavera del año próximo Estados Unidos 
comenzará a regresar todas sus tropas de Irak.

Fortuño, del Partido Nuevo Progresista en la Isla y del Partido Republicano 
en Estados Unidos, dijo que fuentes suyas en el Departamento de Defensa le 
informaron que el retiro masivo de las tropas en Irak comenzará el próximo 
abril.

"La información que nos han dado es que para la primavera comienza la 
movilización masiva en esta dirección. Eso toma tiempo. Estamos hablando de 
sobre 150,000 soldados que volverán a casa. Eso incluye obviamente a los 
soldados puertorriqueños", dijo Fortuño en entrevista con Prensa Asociada.

Cerca de 1,800 soldados de origen puertorriqueño están destacados en Irak, 
Kuwait y Afganistán, y al menos 35 de ellos han muerto desde que Estados 
Unidos desató la guerra tras los atentados en Nueva York y Washington en 
2001, según cifras del Pentágono.

Fuentes militares en Washington no han ofrecido públicamente una fecha para 
el retiro de las tropas estadounidenses de Irak. El Comisionado Residente 
aseguró que regularmente recibe información del Departamento de Defensa 
sobre el conflicto bélico en Irak.

Fortuño dijo que él preferiría que la guerra concluyera lo antes posible en 
Irak, pero afirmó que los puertorriqueños no deben criticar la presencia de 
soldados de la Isla en el conflicto bélico porque "no podemos ser ciudadanos 
americanos para unas cosas y no para otras".

Al preguntársele si resulta injusto que los puertorriqueños participen en 
guerras estadounidenses sin poder votar por su presidente y comandante en 
jefe, Fortuño dijo que "tenemos la opción de optar por otras cosas".

"Otras cosas son dos: ser una república independiente donde decidimos si 
entramos en una guerra o no; o si somos estado, donde tenemos derechos como 
tienen los otros 50", expresó.
