Wednesday March 2nd at 7:00pm at the Mennonite Church:

Dr. Gino Strada will be speaking about his first-hand experiences of
civilian victims of war. He is an Italian surgeon who decided in 1988 to
apply his surgical experience to helping and
treating civilian war victims. He has worked in Pakistan, Ethiopia,
Thailand, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Bosnia.

Dr. Strada is the founder of EMERGENCY, an organization that provides
medical and surgical assistance to the victims of armed conflict, and
attempts to promote a culture of peace and solidarity. See
http://www.emergencyusa.org/ for more info.

He is also the author of “Green Parrots – A War Surgeon’s Diary”. This book
is based on his years caring for war victims, many injured by landmines.
The book was very popular throughout Europe in it’s original Italian (titled
"Pappagalli verdi"). Now that the book is available in English, Dr Strada
has come to this country to share his story and his organization.

Dr. Strada will also be on Focus 580 with David Inge at 11:00am on March
2nd.

This event is sponsored by the Peace & Justice Initiative at 1st Mennonite
and the Peace & Social Concerns committee of East Bend Mennonite.
