Lisa,

The Obama and Durbin suggestions are excellent. Also, I saw Durbin on C-Span last night re Bush's budget and related issues. He was
GREAT, once he got past the "Support our troops, complete Our Mission ..." How could anyone listen to him re all the rest, and not see it??

Isn't "unwavering" generally used to connote something very positive -- brave, steadfast, etc? Kathy Kelly springs to mind..... How 'bout, "Your mindless, stubborn, mule-like adherence....." Is there a word for that??

"Mend your ways" has a snowball's chance in hell and kinda dilutes the msg. Maybe start Timmy's w/ "I'm a voter in your district, and I strongly disagree w/ your stance..... " and leave off the last sentence. Also, you could say "You voted for the amendment..." and delete the "yes" JMHO

SEND A POSTCARD TO OUR CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES
                                    Suggestions of points to make

To Senator Barak Obama: I voted for you in November 2004 because I thought you would be progressive but I am disappointed with a number of the positions you have taken. Your unquestioning support of Condoleezza Rice, your statements supporting continued occupation of Iraq, and your support of legislation to limit class action law suits make me question where you stand and who you think you represent. You cannot take the support of people like me for granted. Please ally yourself with other progressives in Congress.

To Senator Richard Durbin: I voted for you in the past and I want to express my support for the progressive positions you have been taking. I especially appreciate your votes against confirming Condoleezza Rice and Alberto Gonzales. Please work to end the occupation of Iraq and bring the US troops home as soon as possible/now. etc, etc.

To Representative Tim Johnson: You have shown unwavering support for the use of military force in Iraq. You have voted to restrict bankruptcy and oppose class action law suits. You support social security privatization and voted yes for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. You have consistently earned ratings as anti-civil rights, anti-senior, anti-public health, pro-gun rights. Please mend you ways.

Other suggestions:
Support the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq now.

Provide reparations for rebuilding Iraq.

Vote against the upcoming supplemental budget for additional war spending (between $70 and 100 billion).

Do not reinstall the draft.

Bring justice to the Palestinians.

End corporate gouging by Haliburton and other defense contractors.

End shameful mistreatment in prisons, both military and domestic.

Join the filibuster to oppose confirmation of President Bush's judicial appointments.

Open trade with Cuba.

Oppose decimation of the social security net and the public sector.
