Congratulations to David and Carl for distributing information at the Halevi talk yesterday in Gregory Hall. What made the talk particularly insidious was that Halevi attempted to build a case for his own objectivity and morality in order to then serve up what amounted to a racist denunciation of all Palestinians. In this he was aided and abetted by the his campus and local sponsors. In fact, this man is an extremist-- no different, if perhaps more artful, than those Zionists who openly call for the liquidation of what remains of Palestine. What criticisms he offered toward the "Israeli side"--to borrow his childlike euphemism--were a criticism of all Israeli efforts, no matter how half-hearted or false, toward peace. With his criticisms of the "Palestinian side", on the other hand, he aims to justify the case for the collective punishment of the Palestinian people. His thesis was clear: the magnanimous but naive Israeli side offered the Palestinians peace through Oslo, but
the Palestinians--all of them!-- have responded with a "terror campaign," which justifies any and all Israeli means of response, in since, as he said, "Israel is at war." Make no mistake: Halevi is actually justifying all measures, leading up to and including genocide.

The distribution of the literature assembled by David, along with two challenging questions from the floor, dissolved this high-paid huckster's claims to objectivity. Given the actual nature of Halevi, David should be congratulated for the pamphlet's restraint.

Best,
Tom
