 Dear Editor:
From Friday September 16 through Monday, September
19, people in the Champaign-Urbana area will be able
to visit “Eyes Wide Open: An Exhibition of the Iraq
War.” This is an opportunity for adults and children
to contemplate and mourn the human cost of this war:
Empty combat boots tagged with the names of soldiers
from Illinois who have died in the war will be lined
up as silent reminders of sons and daughters,
mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers who have
died too soon. While it is hard to calculate the
number of Iraqi civilians who have died, their losses
are also
remembered in this memorial. An exhibit created by
the American Friends Service Committee in Chicago,
the
local display is cosponsored by about ten community
groups and over a dozen religious organizations. I
hope you can stop by one of the following locations:
Friday, 8AM-4PM on the UI Quad; Saturday, 10AM-6PM
at West Side Park near downtown Champaign; Sunday,
2PM-6PM at Douglass Park in Champaign; and Monday,
10AM-4PM at Carle Park in Urbana.
