Dear Friend, What happens when committed parents, community members, university faculty, staff, and students put their heads and hearts together in the interest of equity and excellence in public education? How can we think of existing neighborhoods, schools and educational goals in new and exciting ways? What would a school that embraces and educates all its students—underachievers, high achievers, low income, upper income, all cultures—equally well? How could we think about school design and governance in a way that maximizes parental, faculty and community involvement, while respecting the value and role of the central administration and school board? What if we could attract outstanding faculty, administrators and support staff, as well as serve as a training ground and launching pad for future educational leaders committed to excellent urban education? Clear your calendar for Thursday, December 7th, 6:00 PM and join us for an exciting
gathering of educators and community members who share your interests and commitments. Come to find out about and experience the Great Campus idea at our Open House—we care about what you think and need your feedback. The attached flyer describes the Scoping Study and purpose of our gathering in greater detail. We'd love it if you encouraged others who may be interested in attending and ask that you forward this email with the attached flyer so they receive the same background information. We'll be looking for you next Thursday, December 7th at 6:00 PM, at the Illinois Terminal, 45 E. University Avenue, 4th Floor. There will be refreshments and plenty of parking. If you have any questions about this gathering, please contact Imani Bazzell at the Urban League of Champaign County, 363-3333 x20 We look forward to your company and input! Sincerely, Ann Bishop, School of Library and Information Sciences, UIUC Rochelle Gutierrez, Department
of Curriculum and Instruction, UIUC Doug Johnston and Jim Wescoat, Department of Landscape Architecture, UIUC Imani Bazzell, Urban League of Champaign County
