The Champaign Township meeting to discuss General Assistance funds (and
the failed referenda):
Dec. 12, 7:00 PM,
City Of Champaign Council Chambers, 102 N. Neil

Your presence, along with others, might enable the five Democrats on the
township Board (same people as are on the city council) to hold
together to see that the previous funding for the "poorest of the
poor" is restored to the township for "General Assistance." Recipients
of public assistance include many who are employed, even union members.

Dear Mayor Schweighart and Council Members:

I am concerned that the Township Assistance program for our poorest
citizens will not continue to receive the funding that is needed to

support the neediest citizens in this community. Currently , the
Township is unable to fund its mandated services. However, I am urging
you to uphold the commitment you made in your June 20, 2006
resolution, when you wrote that the Trustees of the Township had

determined that "it is of vital public interest that the Township
obtain an increase in its tax rate extension limitation for the 2006
levy year in order to properly and responsibly meet its statutory
obligations". Surely you can find a way to give $200 per month to the
people who need it the most.

Sincerely,

-----
