[And why don't we hear about it? Here's some indication, from
today's Democracy Now. --CGE]

AP Cuts Ties to NED-Funded Journalist
In other news, the Associated Press has announced its ended
ties with a reporter found to have been working for the U.S.
government-backed National Endowment for Democracy. The NED,
which receives annual funding from the US Congress and State
Department, has been linked to supporting opposition groups
favorable to US government positions in countries such as
Venezuela and Haiti. The reporter, Regine Alexandre had
contributed at least one dozen articles for the AP and at
least two for the New York Times. Her ties to the NED were
exposed by independent journalist Anthony Fenton and radio
host Dennis Bernstein on the radio program Flashpoints on
Pacifica's KPFA.

>3 January - Haiti's interim government confirmed
>Sunday that general elections scheduled for January 8
>would be postponed again, and did not immediately set
>a new date for the vote. The government announcement,

>back four times, would not be held on time.
>Provisional Election Council (CEP) member Pierre
>Richard Duchemin said Friday the polls would be have
>to be rescheduled yet again. "None of the target
>conditions have been achieved for the country to be
>ready to hold the elections on January 8," Duchemin
>told AFP, while stressing he did not speak officially
>for the council. "We cannot ask people to go vote
>without the conditions being met," he said. Sources
>close to the electoral council and interim government
>said a first round vote was now being considered for
>February 7.(AFP)
