Yes, Sarid is sort of in the Feingold band of the Israeli political
spectrum, so this is a good sign, at a time when 86% of the Israeli
public (which might be 95% of Israeli Jews) supposedly support the
army's attacks on Lebanon. Public Security Minister Dichter said
Israel might at some stage have to negotiate over Lebanese prisoners
held in Israel to end the crisis, which is a pretty stunning thing for
the Public Security Minister to say, given that the sudden alleged
impossibility of negotiating over prisoners was used as a key pretext
for launching the military campaign in Lebanon.
