I came across this announcement on an IMC list. Anyone know about this
freelancer who's been to Iraq (probably not recently)? The events below are free
and open to the public.

Subject: [Imc-staff] An Invitation to Your Members

: Hi,
:
: I have a set of events that I know for sure will be of interest to members
: and others who are affiliated with the Independent Media Center, and I would
: appreciate it if you would distribute this in any way you deem appropriate
: (e-mail list?). Next week, the Global Crossroads Living-Learning Community
: at the University is hosting a guest-in-residence. Lorna Tychostup is an
: editor, independent journalist and photojournalist who has been to Iraq for
: more than three months over the past three years.
:
: All of the events listed below are free and open to the public, and we would
: love to have some of your members join us. All events are in the
: Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Halls at the corner of Pennsylvania and
: Lincoln Avenues.
:
: Monday, April 3 at 8:00 pm "Open Discussion: What's the Role of the Media in
: the World Today?" (Saunders Lounge)
:
: Tuesday, April 4 at 7:00 pm "The War in Iraq: Making Peace with Many Truths"
: (Saunders Lounge)
:

: Sparrows" a film by Iraqi filmmaker Hayder Daffar. (You can find a website
: about this film at http://www.iraqeye.org/).
:
: I've included more information about Lorna Tychostup below, and you can also
: find her web site at http://www.lornatychostup.com/. If you have any
: questions, please feel free to contact me at 265-5434.
:
: Thank you for spreading the word about this important program,
: Piper Hodson
: Program Director
: Global Crossroads Living-Learning Community
:
: Lorna Tychostup is the senior editor for Chonogram magazine and a freelance
: journalist and photographer. To date, she has visited Iraq three times,
: collectively spending more than 12 weeks there. Her photographs of Iraq and
: its people, before and during the war, have been exhibited throughout the
: country, and her PowerPoint presentations have intrigued and informed
: audiences at colleges and other organizations from New York to Oregon.
: Lorna's work has appeared in Foreign Policy, YES!, Z Magazine, Covert Action
: Quarterly, War Times, and Major League Baseball Magazine. She has been
: interviewed extensively, on both radio and TV, including Fox's "Hannity &
: Colmes" and NBC's "Nightly News with Tom Brokaw."
:
: Lorna's reputation is built on her ability to report stories that go beyond
: mainstream media coverage. During her trips to Iraq, she has opted to get as
: close to the people (and hence the truth) as possible. Living in modest
: unprotected hotels and traveling in beat-up cabs, she has found her way from
: the ordinary people in the street, to the squatters living in bombed-out
: government-owned properties, to high-ranking state ministers, to the judges
: of the new Iraq who have chosen to uphold the law of the land at incredible
: risk to their lives.
:
: Walking among the Iraqi people-the powerful and the destitute alike-at four
: crucial historical moments, beholden to no editorial authority or political
: agenda, Lorna Tychostup has had an unparalleled opportunity to truly
: comprehend very complex developments. The perspective she has earned is
: unique and comprehensive Her haunting photographs and poignant stories
: enable her audiences to share the tragedy, the struggle and the triumph of
: the various communities that make up the Iraqi people. Her body of work is
: essential for anyone hoping to understand any aspect-domestic, political, or
: otherwise-of what is currently the world's most conspicuous crisis.
