there is a specific reason to vote in the Treasurer's race.

As Randall pointed out, the Treasurer invests state funds.

When Pat Quinn was Treasurer, he used this as leverage on the banks
that hold Illinois' money: show us evidence that you have programs to
invest in low-income communities, or the state of Illinois will take
its money somewhere else.

The Dem (Alexander Giannoulias) has pledged to continue this program.
I'm guessing that the Republican would not.

Treasurer might be a close race. Neither the Dem (Alexander Giannoulias) or Rep
(Christine Radogno) candidate stands out as particularly stellar or particularly
bad. The Treasurer mainly just invests state funds, doesn't really factor much
into state legislation or policy. There is a Green candidate (Dan Schlorff).
