[Peace-discuss] contrary to NYT, Chavez did not say that Chomsky was dead

Those of you who read the NYT every day are probably aware that the
NYT reported that Chavez expressed regret that he had not met Chomsky
when he was alive. Much merriment ensued, with the usual references to
Mark Twain and exaggerated reports of demise. It seems, however, that
this was simply an editing or reporting error, and that Chavez was
referring to the late American economist John Kenneth Galbraith, as
reported in this article by Reuters (also on the NYT's web site:)

"The dark-skinned, mixed race leader told New Yorkers to read Abraham
Lincoln and Mark Twain as well as modern thinkers like Noam Chomsky
and John Kenneth Galbraith, lamenting he could not meet Galbraith
before he died in April at age 97."

Chomsky was gracious about it (and some conspiratorial wags suggested
that it was just another scheme by Chavez to promote the sales of
Chomsky's book) but I have asked the NYT for a correction...
