[Peace-discuss] A RATIONAL PERSPECTIVE ON OUR PRESENT CRISES, G. Kolko

For those who didn't attend Rashid Khalidi's talk this afternoon, you
can turn to the article by Kolko, whose last paragraph says:

Communism is all but dead but the world's sufferings have, if
anything, increased with the disappearance of what was the
justification for the Cold War. The resources that the US and
mankind might have devoted to making peace and meeting rational human
needs and desires have instead gone to preparing for and making war.
Today we confront the indefinite prospect of war and human suffering
on a vast scale-but this has also been the case for at least the past
half-century.

The rest of the article is at

Khalidi remarked that events transpiring recently, especially in the
middle east, are ghosts of the cold war between the USSR and the USA,
and outlined how the politics of the middle east and the US quest for
domination there have developed. Kolko's analysis is somewhat
different, but they come to similar conclusions on the basis of their
knowledge of history.
