[Peace-discuss] school board elections in Champaign and Urbana

Someone wrote back with a question about school board elections, which
are happening in both Champaign and Urbana. I am not really
knowledgeable about this, but I can share the little I know and
perhaps others will chime in.

In Champaign:
Greg Novak, a former teacher, is running and he has been endorsed by labor.

In Urbana, in District 7, which is the district that Ricky and I live
in (California and Webber),
Tracy Heilman is running against John Dimit, the incumbent. I gather
that there is a lot of unhappiness with Dimit from friends who follow
schools more closely. Ricky and I have yard signs for Heilman. I
believe that Barbara told me that Tracy Heilman is married to Rev.
Mulberry (who recently gave the Oaxaca presentation.) Not that you
should judge someone by who they're married to, but it is some kind of
indicator. :)
