At last week's showing of the Norman Solomon "War Made Easy" documentary,
Ryan Walker (rwalker {at} ravecomm.com) was looking for co-sponsors
in hopes of bringing Middle East journalist Dahr Jamail here in
late October.

(I hadn't met Ryan Walker before -- he may be with the ISO --
and if so I'm not sure whether this is an ISO initiative or his own.)

Apparently Jamail will be spending a few days in the
midwest promoting a book he's written with Amy Goodman,
"Beyond the Green Zone: Dispatches from an
   Unembedded Journalist in Occupied Iraq"
and if we can make C-U look inviting enough,
we might convince him to come here and speak.

A bio blurb on one of his recent articles (originally from truthdig)
   Lebanon's Anti-Heroes
   http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/05/18/1336/

says this of Jamail:

Dahr Jamail is an independent journalist from Alaska who has
reported extensively from within occupied Iraq and elsewhere in the
Middle East. He writes regularly for the Sunday Herald, Inter Press
Service and the Ester Republic among other outlets. He is a special
correspondent for Flashpoints radio and appears on Democracy Now!,
Air America, Radio South Africa, Radio Hong Kong and numerous other
    stations around the globe.

Anyway I think this would be a great thing for AWARE to be involved in.
I'll raise it at the AWARE Presents meeting (Aug 15th, 7pm at the Kruse home)
but wanted to let the list know too.

Above all, I'd like to thank Bob Naiman for bringing the War Made Easy
film here, and *especially* for arranging for a question & answer session
with Norman Solomon afterward, which Bob was able to do as one of the
prime movers of Just Foreign Policy (www.justforeignpolicy.org).

And, thanks to Rev. Mike Mulberry and the UCC for being the hosts for
last week's event!

   Stuart
