Champaign City Council Begins Goal Setting Process - Welcomes Citizen Input
Posted By infodesk On August 9, 2007 (2:59 pm) In General

The Champaign City Council is beginning the process of establishing goals for the City of Champaign for the next five years. The City Council sets the vision for the City and adopts goals to reflect that vision and guide decision-making at all levels of City government. An important part of this process involves input from the community at large. The City Council is interested in obtaining input from citizens as to what the City's priorities should be for the next two years.

According to Mayor Jerry Schweighart, "this City Council is always open to hearing what Citizens have to say, the goal setting process is a meaningful way that Citizens can influence the priorities of the City." The City Council has created a variety of methods for Citizens to provide feedback. They may provide feedback in the following three ways:

1) By completing the survey on the City's website at www.ci.champaign.il.us/surveys/councilgoals

2) By sending an e-mail to CityCouncilGoals at ci.champaign.il.us

3) By mailing your comments to Mayor/City Council, 102 N. Neil Street, Champaign IL 61820.

The City Council has developed four general open-ended questions that will provide citizens with the opportunity to assess their satisfaction with City services and their priorities for the future. The questions are as follows:

1) What are the major City successes in the past year?

2) In five years, success for the City of Champaign means ... (fill in your ideas)

3) Why do I choose to live in Champaign?

4) What are the major issues and projects that need to be addressed by the Mayor and City Council?

All of the comments must be received by August 31, 2007. The information will be compiled and forwarded to the City Council for consideration. If you would like a copy of the results of this survey, please include your e-mail or mailing address with your responses.

The City Council discussion on the City's vision and goals will be held during two Special Study Sessions on September 24th and 25th. The goal setting process will culminate on November 6th when the City Council adopts the new goals.
