[Peace-discuss] Racist cartoon in N-G

Yesterday, a cartoon on the editorial page of the News-Gazette depcited Bush, Olmert, and Abbas (dressed in a suit) as representing peace, and Hamas (depicted with more stereotypically Arab features, and dressed of course in non-Western clothing) as wanting to shake hands in order to blow up the other three. This is, of course, a perverse and racist depiction, in which the perpetrators are presented as victims, and vice versa.
   
  This is akin to Nazi propaganda that presented Jews as rats.
   
  Such a cartoon should bring many letters of protest. Due to their restrictions on frequency, I cannot write one. Other people who care should. Someone might want to make it clear that if some members of the Jewish community wish to be taken seriously regarding hate speech, they should apply this standard consistently.
