Just to keep people up on people who oppose the escalation, the United Methodist Church (of which W. claims to be a member) has a General Board that is requesting people to write their Congress people...

I oppose the President’s decision to deploy an additional 21,000 U.S. troops for the Iraq war. I am disappointed by the lack of vision and imagination which sees more force as the only answer. I strongly urge you to support binding legislation that would block the President’s escalation of the war and the expansion of the conflict into Iran.

Non-binding resolutions stating political opposition to the escalation, such as the Warner-Levin proposal, are politically important, but won’t end the war. Congress must use its "power of the purse" to bring this war to an end.

Escalation is the wrong answer. We should be working to end the war through robust diplomacy that will lead to a responsible exit of U.S. troops on a rapid timetable and a commitment to the reconstruction of the country.
