Different definitions are part of it, Tracy, but contradictory
desires are another. Our species carries around internal
contradictions that can't be resolved. Quick- do you believe
in liberty or democracy? I think most of us believe in both.
I could write a rough equation describing the conflict between
the two, and it describes cyclic behavior on the slightest
perturbation.
