Public Meeting and Discussion:

The Escalation of the War in Iraq and the Decay of American Democracy

  Wednesday, Jan 31, 7pm
  Room 406 Illini Union

Why does the Bush administration refuse to acknowledge the overwhelming opposition to the war in Iraq, demonstrated most recently in the midterm elections?

Why does the Democratic Party refuse to cut off funding or initiate impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney for leading the US into a war based on lies?

Why does pressuring elected Democrats fail again and again to produce any meaningful results?

What is the relationship between war abroad and social inequality at home?

Why is protest against the war by itself not enough?

What is needed to stop the war and attacks on democratic rights?

  Speakers:
David Walsh, Editorial Board, World Socialist Web Site (wsws.org)
Joe Parnarauskis, 2006 Socialist Equality Party candidate for state senate
