I agree with Stuart. Engaging with party politics lessens our
effectiveness against war and racism and leaves us seriously
compromised as well. Both the Democrats and the Republicans
have many members who are working actively for peace and
against racism. We need to be issue-oriented. The environmental
advocacy groups do them same, for good reason. You just can't
concluded that a Republican wants to rape the environment and
a Democrat to protect it, or vice-versa. The party of the
person tells you little about their environmental position, and
not much more regarding their position on peace. It does in DC,
of course, but those guys are politicians, and what they say
is not necessarily what they think.

The same is true of the military and veterans. Mayor Schweighart
got a little lesson in this when he tried to get veterans to
come to oppose our referenda. Few did. This was no surprise to
me, a veteran who was there to support the referenda.
