I wasn't entirely clear in what I wrote last night. I see the difference between the left and right not so much as one of democracy versus authoritarianism, as one of altruism versus self-interest. Neither pure case is workable, I claim, because of what it is to be human. I agree with Mort that the difference is multi-dimensional. Bob
