for those of us in Naomi's district - Champaign-Urbana, roughly
speaking - she is already a co-sponsor.

so, perhaps folks in Naomi's district could give a moment's thought to
anyone you could forward this to who may be outside Naomi's district.

Subject: Anti-War Bill Before IL Assembly This Week: Contact Your Rep
To: naiman.uiuc at gmail.com

Dear Illinois Supporter of a Just Foreign Policy,

Thanks to all your calls and emails, our campaign asking the Illinois
House to endorse a rapid end to the war in Iraq is making major
progress. The legislation was approved by committee, and we expect a
vote of all members of the House this week. Folks in the statehouse
tell us that the citizen advocacy on behalf of this bill has been
noticed.

We are in the home stretch. Since a vote could be taken any day this
week, now is the time for all Illinois residents to call their
representative and ask them to vote for HR 0173. The bill disapproves
of President Bush's decision to send more than 20,000 more troops to
Iraq and urges an orderly and rapid withdrawal of all U.S. troops from
that country. It is sponsored by Reps. Lou Lang, Sara Feigenholtz, and
Jack Franks.

Can you ask your representative to support an anti-war stance and vote
for HR 0173? You can find your State Representative's name and contact
information here:

http://www.elections.il.gov/DistrictLocator/SelectSearchType.aspx

Then please help us track the progress of calls by giving us a report back.

If your Representative is already supporting the bill, please thank
them and pass this alert along to someone who may live in a different
legislative district.

Here are some talking points on Illinois and the war that we provided
in an earlier email, in case they are helpful. (The text of the bill,
HR 0173, is available here.)

We have lost many soldiers from Illinois and hundreds of thousands of
Iraqis have died in an unjust war. Illinois is ranked 8th in number of
soldiers lost in the war: 122. No one really knows the number of
Iraqis killed, but the best estimate is more than 600,000.

Illinois has spent $22.8 billion on the war in Iraq.
Social services and healthcare in Illinois are suffering from severe cuts.

A majority of Illinoisans want the troops home soon.
A recent poll shows 59% of Americans favor a timetable for withdrawal.

The resolution will support our Congresspeople in ending the war in
Washington. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin has said such legislation gives
Illinois lawmakers leverage in Washington to argue and vote for
bringing the troops home.
