I tho't retiring the chief was a done deal, bro't about by NCAA decision that either the chief went or the Fighting Illini could no longer continue to, uh, fight in the NCAA. So why do the diehards even want his return on a referendum?? I can understand why they would pursue it in court (tho' not why they would WANT to pursue it at all, i e retain the chief, now that they've all been sensitized to the issue (humor). Somebody enlighten me?

Of course, the trouble is that if enough other people show up
and think that the Chief *is* an important issue to put on the ballot,
then it could displace one of the questions above, given the
legal limit of 3 advisory referenda.

And, those same people might well vote against the
issues we're supporting.

No one is sure how organized this effort may be or how many people may show up to support it. BUT, it is clear if the referendum questions being proposed by the progressive communities in Urbana and Champaign are to succeed we need ALL the support we can muster. It would be a travesty to have a restore the chief question on the ballot instead of our own questions simply because enough people didn't take an hour or two Tuesday night to attend the Town Hall meetings.
