April 16, 7 PM **This Wednesday**
  Gregory Hall, Room 113
  Champaign, Illinois

The longer the US primary and election period goes on, the
more it becomes clear to millions of people in the US and
around the world that there will be no serious alternative from
either the Democrats or the Republicans. The Democratic
campaign involving Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack
Obama is moving sharply to the right. Clinton is trumpeting
her militarist credentials, while there is little behind Obama's
  rhetoric aside from media hype.

Between now and November, the economic and political
crisis is going to intensify. Economic analysts are warning
of a general financial meltdown, which will exacerbate the
desperate conditions facing millions of people in the US. The
economic situation is reaching conditions not seen since the
1930s. Five years since the invasion, the war in Iraq shows
no sign of ending, and the candidates for both parties are
committed to an indefinite occupation. At the same time,
geopolitical tensions are increasing in every region of the
globe, raising the danger of a more general global conflict.

In contrast to the empty sloganeering of the two parties, this
meeting of the ISSE will present a detailed analysis of the
global economic and political situation, and on that basis
elaborate a perspective for students and working people
