Mon Jan 7th
Pres. Bush visits Horace Greeley Elem. School
on the north side of Chicago,
to celebrate (?) the 5th anniversary
of the No Child Left Behind law.
(There was suggestion of going up to
Chicago to protest -- anyone doing that?)

6:00pm Mon Jan 7th (and Mondays through Feb 4th), Urbana Civic Center
Criminal Justice Forum
Alfred Ivy, local lawyer, is running against
Julia Rietz for Champaign County State's Attorney.
The public is invited to come and raise
any issues of concern with criminal justice
in the community, or to hear about what Ivy
would like to do as State's Attorney.
He'll be running a forum like this
*every Monday* from today through Feb 4th.
(He's running as a Democrat, so he'll face Rietz
in the Feb 5th primary elections.)

Tue Jan 8th
Have you moved since the last election?
Tuesday is the last day to change your voter registration
if you're going to vote in the Feb 5th primary elections!

You can check whether & where you're registered,
or see what you need to do to change it, here:

(or just "champaigncountyclerk.com" and look for "Election Services")

Wed Jan 9th
7PM, Community United Church of Christ, 805 S. 6th St., Champaign
New Sanctuary Movement monthly meeting
Planning for Las Posadas ("the inn") events

Thu Jan 10th
9:00am, Courtroom C, Champaign County Courthouse
Hearing for Donnell Clemons, the homeless man
who had been living in his car on West Side Park
last summer, where interaction with the police
ended in a gunfight. This hearing is important --
may determine how he'll be charged.

(sometime later in January)
Conrad mentioned that the Mennonite Church's pastor
has resigned. Later this month they'll be inviting
a woman who may become his replacement to come speak
with the congregation. Hope to interest her in
working with other local congregations on issues of
peace and social justice. (Conrad, did you say just
when the visit will be? And are you inviting people
from other groups to attend?)
